Work with us

We are looking for self employed engineers who are interested in taking audio repairs. Please call for a chat or pop in.

And…. We are looking for  a new energetic member of shop staff.  The job is 4 or 5 days a week and will probably include Sundays 2 times a month or more. Pay negotiable.

The right person will have some HiFi knowledge and the ability to fill in the gaps in knowledge quickly as homework.  This is not a technical position, no engineering skills are required, but you should be confident to take on  minor repair tasks such as speaker replacement and so one.

Audio Gold is about connecting people with the music they love via HiFi equipment.  So you need a good knowledge of all three  to become a good matchmaker.  You need to bring knowledge with you or be prepared to learn fast and bring your skills up to speed as homework.  And HiFi is about listening to music, so the more interested in music of every genre (except showtunes) you are, the more you can connect with our customers.

One of the great things about our shop, which others may envy, is the fantastic range and quality of our customers. You might serve a college Professor auditioning a system, have to divert to a 12 year old on his lunch break buying his first single, back to the Professor and then on through the day via band members (signed needing a cool hand) (unsigned needing a little love) and of course the odd Granny asking, again, how to change the batteries in her zapper. You might sell the same thing to a dustman or a Q.C. and need to be able to deal with both equally and differently – deal with a parent/buggy/children combo in a hurry fuffle stress bubble or talk for a bit too long to a really interesting man with a fantastic record collection that you need to know about.

Audio Gold is a community centre meets arts centre, but all the time a shop, which means that mostly we are shopkeeping; cleaning, packing, unpacking, restocking, fixing and housekeeping.

Our website is a focus of attention, and like any contemporary business we work on and with the internet daily. The more useful you are at that the better. Minimum requirement will be a general confidence with computers, perhaps experience with CMS and web work, and/or to demonstrate your ability to learn basic systems quickly and independently.

Ideally, this someone will help with the record shop too… obviously, this will mean you have a good knowledge across many genres if not all.  Previous record shop experience could be a plus, but is not totally essential. Responsibilities will include sourcing and pricing secondhand records, expanding and diversifying our new vinyl stock, maintaining online sales.

Working with us will be a challenge, great fun and rewarding. We intend to grow and be around for years and we’d like the right people to do that with us. So, if you think you fit the bill and you’re not run of the mill… don’t send a c.v… drop us an email please or call or pop in for tea.
